Description:
“Be Water, My Friend” is a site-specific, participatory performance that explores movement, adaptability, and human connection in public space. Inspired by the philosophy of Bruce Lee, the work reflects on how people respond to uncertainty, pressure, and change, both individually and collectively.
"Be Water, My Friend.
Empty your mind.
Be formless, shapeless, like water.
You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup.
You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle.
You put it into a teapot, it becomes the teapot.
Now water can flow or it can crash.
Be water, my friend."
- Bruce Lee -
The performance takes the audience on a guided walk through the city, using water as a central material and metaphor. Water becomes a way to think about flexibility, strength, and transformation — how something soft can adapt, flow, resist, or reshape its surroundings. These ideas are reflected in the structure of the performance, which is fluid, responsive, and constantly shifting.
Audience members receive simple instructions through digital communication, allowing the work to unfold quietly within the urban environment. By blending movement, technology, and everyday spaces, “Be Water, My Friend” invites participants to reflect on how we navigate control, freedom, and togetherness in contemporary life.
