<< PQ TALK - Scenography & Resistance in everyday objects>>
Prague Quadrennial 2023

Topic: Scenography & Resistance in everyday objects
Speaker: Carmen Lee
This talk explores how citizens use everyday objects to create scenographic interventions within urban space during moments of social unrest. It focuses on how spontaneous spatial practices can transform the city into a performative environment of resistance, highlighting scenography as a tool for collective expression and political visibility.

Background:
In periods of political and social tension, public demonstrations often reshape the relationship between bodies, objects, and urban environments. Citizens appropriate ordinary materials and spatial configurations to communicate dissent, assert presence, and negotiate power within the city. These actions generate temporary scenographies that blur the boundaries between performance, resistance, and everyday life.

The talk examines how such scenographic practices emerge organically, emphasizing the role of space, movement, and materiality in acts of resistance.
